According to WHO, persons with periodic health challenges are susceptible to COVID-19 infection. Majority of People living with HIV (PLHIV) from poor homes are unable to afford the routine drugs and eat balance diet during this COVID-19 pandemic to sustain their body immunity including the pregnant mothers. Hence they urgently need medical/medication and food aid to support the Antiretroviral drugs they take in.

People living with HIV with advanced disease, those with low CD4 and high viral load have an increased risk of infections and related complications in general.

AIDS Health Foundation (AHF) and Whispering Hope Africa Initiative (WHAI) have joined forces to support PLHIV with palliatives of medications and food stuffs to cushion the challenges they face caused by COVID-19.

AHF saw the need to provide emergency fund support due to the challenges confronting the PLHIV in terms of feeding and assessing treatment.

WHAI's decision to support the PLHIV is based on their vulnerability and the fact that most of them are from poor homes. They are hardly remembered and none of them in the communities WHAI works has received any sort of palliative support. This is in line with WHAI's mission of bettering lives of PLHIV in poor communities. 300 households of PLHIV from four support groups will be benefitting in this first phase.

WHAI calls on the public, firms, companies and individuals to join and supporti initiatives that can alleviate the discomfort of these poor people living with HIV. Also there is need routine drugs like multivatimins for them.
